Song Instruments and MIDI
Record pad/MIDI takes or host an AUv3 instrument with MIDI capture and optional audio prints.
Record a Pattern / MIDI take
- 01
Choose the track
Add or select a PATTERN / MIDI track in SONG.
- 02
Prepare
Choose the intended sound setup, Song position, input/quantize options, and arm the track.
- 03
Perform
Use Record and play TEMPO-1 pads or incoming MIDI, then stop.
- 04
Edit
Double-tap the take to open its step editor. Work in 16-step pages with MODE, ALL, SOUND, AUTO, and ZOOM.
Edit a Song MIDI take
- MODE offers STEP, VEL, PITCH, PROB, CND, TIME, RTRG, and SOUND. STEP enters notes; value modes edit existing steps. ALL applies the edit to active steps for the selected voice on the visible page.
- Use the page controls to move through the performance. SOUND blocks let a voice use a chosen sound for a 16-step block.
- AUTO selects an automation parameter for the take; Undo/Redo revises edits and DONE returns to SONG.
- This Song take is separate from the global Pattern library item. Save it to BANK when you want to reuse the performance.
Set up an AUv3 Instrument track
- 01
Add INSTRUMENT
Create an INSTRUMENT track and open its instrument controls.
- 02
Choose the instrument
Browse installed AUv3 instruments, choose one, and wait for it to become ready.
- 03
Open its editor
Use the instrument editor to choose a sound. Install/open the instrument's own app once if it is not visible in the browser.
- 04
Route MIDI
Select the MIDI input and channel. ANY INPUT and OMNI are the broad defaults; narrow them when several controllers or channels are connected.
- 05
Audition
TAP TO PLAY arms the instrument track and enables monitoring so the selected instrument can respond.
Choose what to capture
| Mode | Result |
|---|---|
| MIDI | A captured MIDI performance that plays the hosted instrument; arrange its clip and edit its plug-in automation. |
| AUDIO | A captured audio performance. |
| MIDI + AUDIO | A MIDI performance plus captured sound, giving you live-instrument or PRINT playback choices. |
Live instrument and PRINT playback
- The instrument-name playback choice uses the live hosted instrument; PRINT uses the captured audio when a print exists.
- Use the live instrument when changing its sound or parameter automation. Double-tap an Instrument take to open its PERFORMANCE automation editor. To change the played notes, record another performance; the 12-voice note/step editor belongs to Pattern / MIDI takes.
- An instrument must be installed to recreate its live sound. A saved MIDI setup does not install the plug-in. Bounce audio to BANK or keep a captured print for reuse.
- Only one Song track can be armed. Finish a take before changing instruments or replacing a Song.
- Some plug-in editor keyboards make sound without sending MIDI the host can capture. Use AUDIO or MIDI + AUDIO to retain that performance's sound.
- TEMPO-1 hosting an AUv3 instrument in standalone is different from TEMPO-1 running as an AUv3 plug-in. Song hosting is part of standalone Song Mode.
